About North Norfolk

Getting away

A holiday cottage in North Norfolk is the perfect getaway. Fakenham is only 2.5 hours from Central London and 75 minutes hours from Peterborough, provding a great base to visit North Nofolk.

A short holiday or a long weekend in a cottage is a real tonic, seeming like a longer break because of the change of scene. Plus, it's a great place to bring children and grandchildren, offering a real seaside experience.

Once there you'll find wide expanses of unspoilt countryside, glorious beaches and fresh air. There are also great pubs, restaurants and place to visit. See our guide about Things to do in North Norfolk, when planning your stay.

Dog friendly

You are welcome to bring your dog - they love the beach even more than us! There are two stainless steel dog bowls in the garden for water, as our daughter's dog visits occasionally.

Cats are not welcome unfortunately as we are alergic to cat hair.

Rules for dog owners

The garden is dog-secure, but plase do not leave your dog outside barking at all hours.

Please clear up any dog mess daily and check before you leave.

Dogs are allowed downstairs only and must not go on the furniture. We reserve the right to charge an additional cleaning fee if dog hair is found on furniture

We charge a fee of £20 for a long weekend and £40 for a week per dog, as some additional cleaning is required, even when rules are followed.

Getting there

Although you'll feel far away from everything in North Norfolk, its actually really easy to get to.

By Car from London

Either take the M11 out of London and just after Stanstead take the A11 to Mildenhall roundabout, then up the A1065 all the way to Fakenham.

Alternatively, a more picturesque and similar timed route is to take the A1(M) to Letchworth, the A505 across to the A11, picking up the A1065 to Fakenham

By Car from Peterborough/Leicestershire

Take the A47 east toward Kings Lynn, before picking up the ring road at Lynn to the A148 Cromer Road, which passes Fakenham. Part dual-carriageway and part A road it is relatively fast and direct.

By Train

Kings Lynn station is 30-35 minutes drive from the house. Trains hourly fro London take 1h 45m. There is a bus from Kings Lynn to Fakenham about 15 mins after arrival from London. The return trip is trickier, as the bus arrives 5 minutes after the hourly train leaves, so you have to wait. Sunday buses are few and irregular.

Norwich station isn't much further at at around 45 minutes drive and can be cheaper than the Kings Lynn route. There are also hourly buses from Fakenham to Norwich, then a 1/2 mile walk to the station.

Local buses

Lynx buses run the 49/49A from Fakenham to Kings Lynn every 2 hours or so, Mon-Sat. Less on Sunday.

There is also the Coastliner route which goes from Fakenham to Walsingham, Wells, Overy Staithe, Burnham Market, Brancaster, Hunstanton and then Kings Lynn.
