Holkham Beach (12 miles)

Holiday Cottage in Norfolk

Holkham Gap, along with Wells-next-the-Sea is the easiest place to access the wonderful North Norfolk beaches. At both there is a car park, and you can also walk between the two car parks (about 1.5 miles each way) going one way along the bach and the other behind the pines on the path.

Holkham now has a cafe and nature display at the beach end of St Ann’s Drive, the name of the private road leading from Holkham Hall to the beach. It costs around £3.50 to park for 2 hours. The car park is full in summer and some weekends, meaning you still have to walk a mile to the beach. On these days Burnham Overy Staithe is an alternative – free parking there.

Wide expanses of beach, lovely dunes and so much space await you. Even on ‘busy’ summer days when the car park is full, there are wide oen stretches of sand at low tide and plenty of dunes to wander along and find a picnic spot. There is a naturist area mid-way between Holkham and Burnham Overy beaches.

The Victoria pub and restaurant is at the road end of St Ann’s Drive and you can also go into Holkham Hall for refreshments and walks, although again there is a car park charge these days.
